Can Magic Change a Person’s Life?

Can Magic Change a Person’s Life?

Can magic change a persons life? In my humble opinion, yes, it can. It changed my life.

You might not believe me but I am very much an introvert…shy if you will. Magic helped me get out of my shell.

Growing up I would watch magicians perform on television. Big names such as Doug Henning and David Copperfield.

In fact, Copperfield in the 80’s did a routine with a dancing cane. When I saw the dancing cane available from a magic catalog I bought it as soon as I could with my paper route money. I practiced that dancing cane routine for hours (years even, before performing it for an audience). And, I had a lot of fun doing it.Wisconsin Magician Steven Dickinson Performs at the Golden Rondelle

I loved that cane and first performed it live a few years after getting to my high school classmates in drama class. The class enjoyed it and my teacher, Sara Joelson did too since I received a very good grade for it. I performed the dancing cane routine to the song “All I Do Is Dream of  You” from hit movie, “Singing in the Rain.” (On a side note this was a slow ballet from the record LP sung by Gene Kelly not the upbeat version that was in the movie sung by Debbie Reynolds.)

So can magic change a life? It sure can! It took a shy boy who was a middle child in the family and give him what he needed to be noticed and feel appreciated. But more than that. The greatest reward was that I saw people with amazed looks and smiles on their faces. I was making a difference in other peoples lives. Their happiness made me happy.

Here I was a punk teenager being able to encourage others, make them laugh and smile with magic, comedy, music, bright colored silks and snow white doves.

Yes, magic can change a life, it changed me.

Have an awesome day,

How About a Pizza Party Magic Show?

How About a Pizza Party Magic Show?

What is a great fun activity for the birthday party. It is both entertaining and it will help you with your food preparation. The answer is a “Build Your Own Pizza Party”

Here is How You Could Through a Pizza Building Party

Before the party you will need to have pizza dough and all the ingredients that your guests may want to put on their own personal pizza. Also you will want to have some parchment paper to build their pizzas on.

The pizza dough can be store bought or made from scratch. Have the dough separated into little balls. Have enough to cover for the amount of guests who will be there.

Have all your meats, veggies, cheese, sauce all cut up the day before the party so it is not another thing to do on the day of the party. Cover them up with plastic wrap so they stay fresh and place in the refrigerator.

On the day of the party your guests will each get a ball of pizza dough that they will flatten, press and stretch into a flat crust. Then they put some sauce on the crust.

Finally, they will build a pizza from all the items that they could possibly want. Bake the pizza pies following the directions from the recipe or container the dough came in.

All that is left is to enjoy the tasty pizzas and continue to have fun with your guests. But, what do you do while you are waiting for it to bake? That’s where I come in.

Update January 1, 2019
If you are doing a TV Show or Movie theme and have a lot of extra time, why not build a desert pizza as well. This time by pizza crusts that are already backed up and just need the toppings.

A simple desert that my mother used to make was to butter the pizza crust and then sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on it. Pop it in the oven for a few minutes until it is golden brown and let it cool before cutting it up. Be careful that the sugar does not burn.

A fun 30-45 minute magic show while it is baking is an excellent idea. Right after the magic show, the pizzas should be all baked, cooled down a bit and ready to be eaten.

Magical Activity While the Pizzas are Baking

Of course, if you are not from Northeast Wisconsin you will need to look up a fun magician from your area. Do a Google or Bing search to locate one in your neck of the woods.

Kid Steals The Show From Magician

Kid Steals The Show From Magician

Wisconsin Magician Entertains at Birthday Party

Cute With Out Even Trying!

In the 30 plus years I have been performing for family events I often find that my little magical helpers steal the show away from me. Some are just too cute while other children are having a bad day and want to cry.

Then we have tiny dancers. You know the ones. They are dancing around. They have the wiggles like they have ants in the pants. Truth be told, some do just have the wiggles but the others have to use the potty.

Then there is the cute things the children say. My all time favorite is after they have met Sherman the Magic Bunny (he is my side kick puppet friend who plays tricks on me) they will often ask, “When is Sherman coming out again” or “We love Sherman.” But, my all time favorite is, “[Amazing Zoomalata] we like you but Sherman is so much better.” That really warms my heart to hear that.

It doesn’t matter that a kid steals my magic show. I’m OK with that. The show is not about me it is about engaging the audience. It is about the audience having fun with the comedy, magic and mystery. I am always trying to get a response like I had at my first magic show in my back yard. See the little boy with his mouth covered. That’s what I am looking for a pure response.

Reading Makes You Stronger

Be it a sense of mouth covering awe like my neighborhood friend, Mark or a giant laugh like this friend holding a balloon barbell at a Wisconsin Library Show from 2016, my goal is for the audience to have a great time. And that is worth it all.

I would love to entertain at your birthday party for your birthday boy or girl. It is their special day. Why not add some magic to their birthday party as you celebrate their life.

Your Adult Birthday Party Can Be A Hit Too!

Your Adult Birthday Party Can Be A Hit Too!

INTERACTIVE BIRTHDAY PARTY

That special someone is having a birthday. They are an adult. Maybe it is one of those years that their new age ends in a ‘0’. You want to make if fun for everyone. But who could you hire that will help your guests interact during the birthday party and enjoy themselves?

Have you considered a magician? A magician can be just what you are looking for to make your adult birthday party a hit. A professional magician will add focus, energy and will build the entertainment to fit your guests needs. In other words, the magician would make the show appropriate for the ages groups present.

PROVIDING A FOCUS

Every party needs a focus, A magician performing a stand up magic routine at the front of the room will create a fun moments that will give the birthday guest of honor and your guests something to talk about during  the party and for years to come.

I remember performing at a party for a gentleman’s 50th birthday party. It was a lot of fun. There were mostly adults there but a few kids were present too. My magic show was tailored for mostly adults and often the birthday “boy” turning 50 helped me out on stage.

The next year, out of the blue, i reunited with the gentleman and he told me he had a great time and that their family and guests were still talking about his special day and how the magician was a big part of it.

ADDING ENERGY

A magician can add energy to your party. There are two types of shows a magician can perform at your party, One we talked about above, the Stand-up Magic Show. The other show is a walk around or strolling magician who performs magic up close and in front of your guests.

Both of these styles can be used by themselves or combined. A strolling magician at the start of your party will help guests feel warm and welcomed. The amazing magic performed right in front of your guests eyes will create an energy and a buzz in the party room.

Not only that, but it will put smiles on your guests faces.

AGE APPROPRIATE MAGIC

When hiring a professional magician you will want to make sure they will entertain your guests. If you will be having mostly adults, make sure you are not hiring a kids magician.

A really good magician will have something for everyone. It is all about how the magician treats your guests. Does he talk down to them like they are kids or does he treat them like adults?

If your party is a good mix of adults and kids the performer will be able to include all ages.

So while your putting together that special day for that special someone in your life. Don’t forget to hire a professional magician. They will help you to make that special day magicial.
